The sett size or pattern must be between 5 and 7 inches which is required for pleating
to the sett for kilting.
-
Thread numbers should be around 240 (6 inches at 40 epi) for 15oz wool or 300 - 350 (6 inches at 50 epi) for medium weight
to produce the ideal sett size.
-
The interactive weaver automatically mirrors the sett to make it symmetrical: therefore
the numbers of threads you insert do not make up the total threadcount - your total
threads inserted are almost doubled in the total count.
-
Threads should always be even in number as the loom takes the thread across and
back before finishing it off We recommend that four or more threads are used per
colour as two appear as a broken line.
-
Before commencing with a weave we check the design against the official Scottish Register of Tartans database for similarities which may affect a successful registration
although this is not a guarantee of success.
